The EWS Certificate allows individuals to avail of reservations in government jobs and educational institutions under the EWS quota, which was introduced in India under the Constitution (103rd Amendment) Act, 2019.
Key Features of the EWS Certificate:
Eligibility Criteria:

Land Holdings: The family should not own more than:5 acres of agricultural land,
A residential flat of 1,000 square feet or more,
A residential plot of 100 square yards or more in a notified municipality,
A residential plot of 200 square yards or more in areas other than notified municipalities.
Application Process:
The certificate can be obtained by applying to the local revenue officer (such as a tehsildar or sub-divisional magistrate) in the applicant’s area.
Documents like income proof, property details, and an affidavit may be required.
Purpose:
Government Jobs: The EWS quota provides 10% reservation in government jobs to individuals who belong to the general category but fall under the economically weaker section.
Educational Institutions: The EWS quota also applies to government-run educational institutions like universities and public-funded schools.
Validity:
The certificate is typically valid for one year and must be renewed annually to remain eligible for benefits.
The EWS Certificate is an important tool to help economically weaker individuals from the general category gain access to government opportunities, similar to the benefits available to reserved categories.
